UAC in Cameroon
Brief history
The Pallottine's history of UAC dates with the arrival of the first Pallottines missionaries: priests, brothers and sisters in the year 1890. With their arrival and hard work, our charism was visible in various fields of apostolate where they have been working. The communion of the faithful of every state and condition was present in their activities. The baptized awareness of been called by God to apostolic co-responsability after the model of Jesus was promoted in every erea.
We said this, because where Pallottines missions were founded we could see many names of lay people written down who were engaged in the apostolate and in the responding of their calling to be holy. The Pallottines fathers, brothers and sisters worked in many instances and occasions alongside with laity in the spirit of Saint Vincent Pallotti. The history tells us that when the Pallottines left Cameroon because of the 1st world war, the catechists took the mission over. This shows how well they were formed in the spirit of Pallotti.
The establishment of the NCC was attempted, but we did not have a follow up over all those days of Pallottines presence in Cameroon. In this 2019, after few years of formation, 36 lay people were admitted in the Union in the Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Regional Rector, Most Reverend Joseph Jules NKODO. The act of commitment was received by Most Reverend father Florent Eloundou, member of the General Coordination Council, Rome. The event took place on the occasion of the feast of Mary Queen of Apostles, in Yaounde.
The Pallottines launched officially the continuity of formation with those who desire to follow the charism of Pallotti. Many people are interested to follow the formation program. Union is becoming a joyful reality in Cameroon with this new awareness of the Pallottines fathers, brothers and sisters of their identity.
Concerning the relationship with local Church, we are invited by bishops to take missions and to bring our charism in their diocese. For the concrete apostolate, we emphasise on the charitable work. We need to reach out to the poor and the needy in our society. The admission of the lay people in Pallottine’s family is a sign of new life coming into our family in Cameroon.
